August is an amazing month in Barcelona. Given the highest amount of tourists arriving to the city, the majority of authentic restaurants close for vacations. Therefore, if you are interested in an off-the-track experience, any month is better than August. Luckily, September is just around the corner.
If you are willing to experiment and be surprised, you might want to go to a restaurant that has no fixed menu at all. A guest comes and makes a choice from dishes of the day, written on a little piece of paper that the owner has in his hand. An interesting fact, Lucio, the owner and the host of the place, has an ever expanding collection of the same phrase in different languages – Trust me. As soon as he gets to know you and understand your preferences, you can just rely on him and let him take your on a delicious journey of the day.
Not surprisingly, the restaurant’s name is Casa Lucio.
The restaurant is quite small with a tapas bar zone at the entrance, that embraces you from the threshold with its homey family atmosphere.
It is decorated with love in a traditional style. There are wine bottles and corks in every corner, local sausages – embutidos and jamon legs hanging from the ceiling, cheese and dried flowers on shelves. Very rural, cellar style.
However, the restaurant’s cuisine is far from village simple food.
The chef, and wife of Lucio, is an amazing cook with an exquisite taste. One of her favourite combinations is mango with jamon and foie gras. Consequently, this combination makes one of the most typical dishes – trifásico.
Whatever there is on the menu, save some space for a homemade dessert. It will definitely be a delicious surprise.
The restaurant is run by its owners and doesn’t have an active online position. Thus, it can be a little challenging to find it.

Just some advice, the average bill is about 30 euros per person. But it’s worth it. And it’s better to book a table in advance.
